Methodist Homes (MHA) was founded in 1943 by a group of Methodists who wanted to improve the quality of life of older people in the time before the creation of the Welfare State. Whilst they are open to providing care and support to people of all faiths and none, they continue to have strong support from Methodists as well as other Christians to this day.
MHA in the community also offer a variety of exciting and fulfilling social and online activities for people aged 55 and over. From befriending, to dance and exercise classes, their aim is to enable older people to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible, helping them to live later life well in their local communities.
With this is mind, we decided to host a Ballroom Dance event, professional dancers, Oliver Hand and Anastasiia Lysytsyna kindly donated their time to the community at Chase Scout Hut.
The residents were overjoyed to watch them dance to the Foxtrot, Tango and many more and were given the opportunity to learn some moves with the professionals afterwards. Oliver also did a Q&A, the residents really enjoyed asking questions about their professional career and were really touched to learn Anastasiia was from Ukraine.
Over 40 residents participated along with MHA staff, and all were supplied with coffee and cream cakes.
We received some great feedback from Midlands Area Manager, Sue Meehan who was delighted to see how many residents participated in the event and how much it lifted everyone’s spirits.
