Castle Brewery - External Surfaces and Interior Communal Spaces

On Albert Street in Newark, Nottinghamshire, the building of Castle Brewery, founded in 1870, was the registered office of James Hole & Company Limited. The James Hole Brewery grew to roughly 250 public houses until its closure in the early 1980's.

Since the development of the Brewery into residential apartments, the Castle Brewery Management Company (CMBCL) and FHP Property Consultants in association with Fisher Hargreaves Proctor property managers have sought an innovative way in which to maintain the splendour and magnificence of this former brewing site. In 2011 CMBCL and FHP Property Consultants entered into a five year maintenance painting contract with Whittle Programmed Painting to repaint both the external surfaces and interior communal spaces. Difficult access requirements meant that large facades of the building were scaffolded, including all bell and clock towers. 80ft MEWPS were utilised in areas that could be reached without scaffolding. The work took eight weeks to complete with consideration given to causing tenants minimum disruption. All internal stairways, passages and gymnasiums were decorated, and with the annual maintenance service now scheduled each and every year, CMBCL and FHP Property Consultants are confident in the ability of Whittle to maintain the surfaces to a high standard.

The specification adopted by Whittle involved the use of premium grade products from the Dulux Weathershield range including Weathershield Gloss, Metalshield finish and Sikkens Novatech woodstains. Areas of timber cladding bleached and weathered were stripped using Owatrol pre-deck and Net-trol, and refreshed back to their original condition.

Testimonial

"A lot of work had to be undertaken in cramped conditions. Whittle Programmed Painting demonstrated complete site safety and used highly skilled tradesmen throughout the project. We were delighted with the results and look forward to an ongoing relationship."
