The Nottingham branch of Whittle Programmed Painting are absolutely delighted and honoured to have been awarded the contract to carry out essential painting on the iconic replica of the first British jet which honours its designer Sir Frank Whittle (no relation!). The statue is a replica of the Gloster E28/39 and represents a major part of our Country’s heritage. It has been in place in the centre of the Lutterworth roundabout since 2003. It was installed by the Sir Frank Whittle Trust and they continue to be responsible for its upkeep.

Stephen Hankinson, Group Chief Executive of Whittle and Hankinson Group said: “We have been very fortunate over the years to have worked on many iconic structures, but this one is extra special as it honours a man who completely changed the technology behind flying – moving us from piston engines and propellers to jet propulsion, and allowing us to fly higher, quicker and more efficiently”.

Edward Hemsley, The Chairman of The Sir Frank Whittle Commemorative Trust Said:

“I would also like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Trust to thank you and your company for the magnificent work carried out. I appreciate that it has been a long pre-work process but the end results have made it all worthwhile. The Replica is now restored to its former appearance and is once again a fitting tribute to the creative work of Sir Frank Whittle. Once again, many thanks for your efforts”.

The Trust is always looking for new sponsors to help support the future of the statue, and more information can be found at www.frankwhittle.co.uk.
