Project Award Manchester Town Hall Back

Hankinson Whittle is honoured to have secured both the specialist decoration and main decorations packages for the significant Manchester Town Hall heritage renovation and restoration project, known as 'Our Town Hall,' in collaboration with Lendlease and Manchester City Council. Our Manchester Office, situated in the heart of Manchester City Centre, is spearheading the project.

Hankinson Whittle will play a pivotal role in this prestigious contract. Going beyond the restoration of the landmark, the company is dedicated to fostering numerous local job opportunities and making a lasting impression on the community. This commitment is exemplified through initiatives such as local apprenticeships and collaborative work experience programs with nearby colleges.

AkzoNobel have been selected as the main paint supplier on this project, and their expertise and heritage paint range will play a vital role in achieving the project's objectives.

The Specialist Decorations Package involves the meticulous cleaning, renovation, and restoration of highly heritage-significant areas in the Town Hall. This includes the State Rooms like the Lord Mayor's Parlour, Banqueting Room, Reception Room, corridors, and stairs with hand-decorated geometric and floral patterns on ceilings. The comprehensive works comprise gold leaf gilding, stencilling, French polishing for timber panelling restoration, and free-hand painting to replicate the original historical decorative schemes.

The Decorations Package encompasses the cleaning, renovation, and restoration of Town Hall areas not covered by the Specialist Decorations Package. This includes Civic Meeting Rooms, Civil Court Rooms, and general circulation areas. The works involve painting ceilings and walls, gold leaf gilding, hanging hand-printed wallpaper, and painting historic wrought iron features.
