Three silos at the East London site of global manufacturer Kerneos have been completely refurbished by Whittle. Kerneos is the world’s leading manufacturer of calcium aluminate cements. The three giant silos, located in Purfleet adjacent to the QE2 bridge, store cement based products. Whittle was asked to redecorate the three silos, associated pipe work, ladders and cladding for Kerneos. Using fixed scaffolding suspended off the silo steelwork, the Whittle team rotary and wire-brushed down the steelwork while also using needle guns to remove more stubborn corrosion and debris build-up. After cleaning, a coat of 'Rustoleum' (rust-inhibiting primer) and two coats of combi-colour topcoat were applied to protect the steelwork and minimise further corrosion.
