Hankinson West Midlands office are carrying out external pre paint repair work on behalf of Orbit.

We have carried out many Social Value initiatives over the past 6 months with Orbit, this time working closely with our paint supplier PPG.

We offered paint and accessories to six vulnerable residents who had been feeling the strain mentally through the latest COVID-19 lock down. As you can imagine it was extremely difficult for Orbit to nominate the residents, and a selection process was followed, and residents chosen fairly.

One in four adults and one in 10 children experience mental illness, and many more of us know and care for people who do. 

Improved mental health and wellbeing is associated with a range of better outcomes for people of all ages and backgrounds.

These include:

  • Improved physical health and life expectancy.
  • Better educational achievement.
  • Increased skills.
  • Reduced health risk behaviours such as smoking ad alcohol misuse.
  • Reduced risk of mental health problems and suicide.
  • Improved employment rates and productivity.
  • Reduced anti-social behaviour and criminality.
  • And higher levels of social interaction and participation.

Since 2013, NHS England has been working to improve the outcomes and experience of people of all ages with mental health problems, to ensure that mental health is treated on par with physical health. To achieve this, they are working closely with service users, careers, and other national NHS bodies and key partners such as social care and the voluntary sector.

Giving back to the community is a large part of our company values and culture, something we implement into every element of our operations.

Our Customer Care Manager, Gemma Besford worked closely with the residents on this project, arranging colour choices over the phone and via email, it was in doing this that she spoke to a gentleman on the phone, he expressed how much this project had helped him, he discussed his mental health and depression with Gemma and said he was looking forward to completing the project with the hope of feeling better and returning to work.
