This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and we would like to remind everyone of the importance of talking about mental health issues more openly to remove the stigma. 1 in 4 adults in the UK is affected with mental health issues, which statistically means that several of your colleagues may be struggling in silence. Studies have shown that this is particularly prevalent within the construction industry. Mental health issues can mean any number of things, from depression and anxiety, to stress and financial worries.
Hankinson Group works with several mental health and wellbeing resources such as Construction Industry Helpline, Able Futures and Health Assured to ensure that our valued employees have 24/7 access to mental health and wellbeing assistance, should they need it. We also have several staff within our company who have been trained as Mental Health First Aiders so that they can help staff both on-site and in the office environment as a confidential point of call.
We are also supporting the Construction Industry Helpline Charity the Lighthouse Club as our nominated charity for 2019, and hold regular in-house fundraising events to help raise money for this important charity. The Lighthouse Club Construction Industry Charity funds the Construction Industry Helpline and provide advice on occupational health and mental wellbeing, as well as emergency financial aid to construction families in crisis and support on legal, tax and debt management matters.
