The National Three Peaks Challenge Completed

Published 23 August 2010

Congratulations goes to Ivor “go at anything” Thomas, Keith “Steadie Eddie” Dowling and Mike “Mountain Goat” Murtagh who completed the National Three Peaks Challenge in just under 14 hours (10 hours were allocated to driving between the mountains).  This was very impressive especially given the extreme weather conditions they had to endure on Saturday 17th July and Sunday 18th July.  First came the Ben Nevis or “Ben” climb then Scafell Pike where they navigated with their guide through pitch darkness and thick fog. Finally after the descent when tiredness was kicking in and morale was low, they made their way to Snowdonia where they were met with torrential rain, paths turning into rivers, 50-60mph winds but they made it to the top and had their photo taken with the banner. In order to achieve the goal of 3 mountains in 24 hours they decided to jog/run down Snowdonia. Mike led the way and done it in 1 hour 3 minutes and Keith and Ivor in 1 hour 15 minutes.   A BIG WELL DONE BOYS!

The challenge was to raise funds in aid of the Construction Industry’s Charity the Lighthouse Club and over £ 3.000  has been raised through individuals donating and also through Corporate Sponsorship.   (www.lighthouseclub.org)

Although the challenge has been done, Ivor, Keith and Mike would really appreciate any support you can give and if you feel you can support them pelase send any sponsorship donations into the office at Birkenhead or go their “Just Giving” fund raising website at www.justgiving.com/Hankinson3peaks2010.
