The Sandwell Employment, Skills and Learning Awards 2010 ceremony was held recently at the Sandwell Council House in Oldbury. This is Sandwell's sixth annual event which recognises "the critical role played by the community and voluntary sector, training providers and employers, in helping Sandwell residents to accomplish their goals". The event was hosted by BBC Midlands Today's presenter Michael Collie, attended by Councillor Ian Jones, Sandwell's Council member for jobs and economy, and a performance from Alfie Smith with his entertaining Black Country Poetry.
Hankinson Painting Group won the award for the Employer of the Year. The award was received by Director, David Rosser and Group Environmental Co-ordinator, Amy Rosser, and alongside them Ed Cox from Think Local who nominated Hankinson Painting Group. Our nomination was received for our continuing efforts to provide opportunity within our local community. Hankinson Painting Group have worked with Think Local and Sandwell Partnership for the last two years, providing young people with apprenticeships and adults in the 19+ programme, with support to achieving their NVQ Level 2 in Painting and Decorating, despite the challenging economic climate. David Rosser said “we have always looked to provide opportunity within the local community and we are delighted this has been recognised with this special award”.
