ST. GEORGE'S HALL DECORATING CONTRACT SWEEPS THE BOARD IN NATIONAL AWARDS

Birkenhead based Painting Contractors, Roy Hankinson Group’s work on the Small Concert Room in St. George’s Hall, which was the recent venue for the William Roscoe lecture by HRH Prince Charles, Prince of Wales in Liverpool, has swept the board in the 2 most prestigious National decorating competitions as well as receiving the Royal seal of approval from HRH Prince of Wales.

First up was the Johnstone’s 2007 Painter of the Year Awards where the Company won 3 trophies in one night.  Refurbishment Category, People’s Choice and the coveted Supreme Winner.  As well as receiving the usual trophy and certificate, the Company was also presented with a brand new Ford Transit Connect worth over £10,000.

Next the Company won the Decorative Category in the Premier Trophy Competition run by the Painting Decorating Association of Great Britain and received the Rose Bowl trophy at a presentation in the historic Painter and Stainers Hall in the City of London.

Roy Hankinson Group’s work in the North entrance hall, East and West staircases and Small Concert Room formed part of the £23 Million Pound restoration work of St. George’s Hall which was recently opened by HRH Prince of Wales.

The work included hand painted walls for a granite effect, gilding and specialist plastering together with specialist electrical and mechanical works.

Stephen Hankinson, Group Chief Executive said “the standard in the competitions was exceptionally high and for each competition we were visited and vetted by a judging panel so to win both the Johnstone’s Painter of the Year and the Painting Decorating Association Rose Bowl represents the ultimate accolade in the profession for any decorating company”.

In accepting the awards, Stephen Hankinson said:

“St. George’s Hall is one of the most important historic buildings in Liverpool and is recognised as one of the finest Neo-classical buildings in Europe.  It will be playing a key part in Liverpool’s 800th anniversary celebrations in 2007 and Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture in 2008. It was therefore imperative that the contract was completed on time and to the highest possible standard”.

“Special credit must go to everybody involved in this contract and in particular we should recognise the specialist skills of local master craftsman, David Thelwell and his team of specialist decorators for their meticulous attention to detail as they restored the Small Concert Room to the original decorative scheme from 1854”.

Roy Hankinson Group has had an exceptional 18 months for awards winning 5 National Awards having been voted in 2006 the Specialist Contractor of the Year in both the Contract Journal Awards and Construction News Awards.  Its work on the historic Thomas Telford Menai Bridge was also the Industrial Painting Contract of the Year in 2006.
